All kinds of animal food

Blood meal is an important protein supplement as it contains as much as 85 per cent protein, including large amounts of lysine, tryptophane and methionine. It is used as protein concentrate in animal feeds as it contains practically no fibre and allows the animal a higher protein intake without increasing the volume of feed.

Blood meal is an important by-product of the meat packing industry. At present most of it is used as a fertilizer, some is used in industrial processes, and a small amount is used for animal feeding purposes. Blood meal carries a higher percentage of protein than any of the other animal protein concentrates.
Unless blood meal is of low biological value, it would be more economical to use it as a feeding stuff than as a fertilizer.
